Photography Contest!

Win a copy of A Journey into Michelangelo's Rome!

How?  Read on!

If you happen to be in Rome on May 24, 2008, you will witness a fireworks display designed by none other than Michelangelo!  According to Wanted in Rome, the spectacle is to be re-enacted at Castel Sant'Angelo.

"To celebrate the beginning of Michelangelo Buonarroti’s work in the Sistine Chapel begun 500 years ago this May, the elaborate firework display designed by Michelangelo, the so-called Girandola, will be re-enacted on 24 May at Castel S. Angelo.

The Girandola, which Michelangelo designed for Pope Julius II, was then recreated each year for Easter and on 29 June for the day of Saints Peter and Paul. It also took place each time a new pope was elected. Its fame spread through Europe and many famous artists and writers represented it or wrote about it in their work including the influential 18th-century etcher Giovanni Battista Piranesi, the 19th-century English author Charles Dickens, and the popular 19th-century Roman poet Giocchino Belli."

Read all about it on Wanted in Rome.  I wish I could be there... but since I am not, how about a contest!

Win a copy of A Journey into Michelangelo's Rome!

How?  Post ONE photo of the Girandola in the comments section of this post.

The person submitting the best photo (as judged by me) will win a free, autographed copy of the book.

Photos must be posted by midnight on May 26, 2008.  I will announce the winner next week.  One entry per person.
