As many of you may know, I was in London and Venice last week. During my trip I was stricken with a horrible case of the stomach flu and had to cancel several days worth of events and meetings -- including a tweet-up I'd been looking forward to for weeks.
What's a "tweet-up"? It is a meeting of people who know each other from Twitter. In this case, I was due to meet up with @Seindal (aka Rene Seindal), @LivingVenice (aka Nan McElroy), and @MonicaCeserato -- all residents of Venice and the Veneto.
Well, as it turns out, Rene, Nan, and Monica had a wonderful tweet-up and went for a boat ride together through Cannaregio, one of Venice's most picturesque neighborhoods. Rene blogged about the event -- and posted some fantastic photos. I hope you'll check it out!

Interested in experiencing Venice by boat?
** This just in... Monica blogged about the tweet-up, too. Here's a link to her side of the story: A Venetian Who has Never Been on a Boat? [added Friday, October 23, 2009]

- Rene leads kayaking tours of the city. Check out Venice Kayak for more information. He also blogs at Rene Seindal.
- And Nan works with VIVA, a cultural association that promotes traditional rowing practices in Venice: http://vivavogaveneta.org. She blogs about living in the city of water and light at Living Venice.
- And while I'm at it, Monica and her family run Faronhof B&B in the Veneto where she offers Italian language instruction sessions as well as accommodations.
