Photo Friday: Gulf Shores, Alabama

I used this photo yesterday when blogging about Wandering Educator's writing contest, but perhaps it deserves a little more explanation...

I took this photo this summer in Gulf Shores, Alabama.  My beautiful sister, Lisa, got married at the Grand Hotel in Fairhope, Alabama.  When I told my friends here in California that she was getting married in Alabama, the universal response was, "Why?"  Well, I will tell you:  the Gulf Coast is gorgeous, and the Grand Hotel in Fairhope is one of the loveliest resorts I've ever encountered.  We had a fantastic time!  And the wedding... well, Lisa gave Steel Magnolias a run for its money.  Lisa and Danny were married at sunset under an enormous Live Oak with waves crashing against the rocks and pelicans swooping overhead.  What an amazing setting to begin their lives together, and I was so blessed to be a part of it.

This photo, however, was taken the week before.  That's Lisa, the bride, on the left and our mom on the right. We spent a fantastic week in Gulf Shores relaxing before the wedding.  Well, "relaxing" isn't quite true -- we were making programs and tying bows and doing all the girly, pre-wedding stuff that we love to do.  But it was great bonding time, and I really got to know Danny, Lisa's intended.  It was lovely!

So, I am now a big fan of the Alabama Gulf Coast. What a lovely place!

Today, I'm taking part in deliciousbaby.com's Photo Friday.  Check out everyone else here!  And thanks, Debbie, for hosting us!
