12 Travel Books for Christmas: Number Five

Merry Christmas, just a little bit early!  My gift to you this holiday season is a series of 12 book suggestions to help make your shopping a little easier (for your friends or for yourself).  Read about how this started here .
12 Travel Books for Christmas
Today's book recommendation is from Jill -- a woman I met in the Rome airport.  Seriously, I meet the coolest people in airports, and Jill is no exception.  She runs a tour company -- Island Spirit Adventures -- that specializes in active travel to Sardinia.
Recommended by: Jill Simpson, who doesn't Twitter -- yet.  She says there really aren't any contemporary books about Sardinia that she recommends.  I say, it is time for her to write one!  So, she gives us a classic...
Sea and Sardinia by D. H. Lawrence
Summary: "Written when he was living in Sicily, Sea and Sardinia records Lawrence's journey to Sardinia in 1921. It reveals his delighted response to a new landscape and people and his uncanny ability to transmute the spirit of place into literary art. But, like his other travel writings, it is also a shrewd enquiry into the political and social values of an era that saw the rise of communism and fascism. This edition restores censored passages and corrupt readings to reveal the book Lawrence himself called 'a marvel of veracity'" -- excerpted from Amazon.com
And... surprise!  Later today I will have an interview with Jill about Sardinia, that beautiful little Mediterranean island, and the delights to be found there.  Wanna know about it as soon as it is posted?  Subscribe or become a follower!

Don't forget...  a fantastic Christmas gift!
